Summer 2003 Youth Members Report
THE NEWSLETTER OF THE ApHC(UK) YOUTH DIVISION
encouraging & supporting the next generation of Appaloosa horse lovers
Hello again to you all and hope you have enjoyed the spring and now feel ready for summer!! I can not wait..light evenings, fair weather, no muddy horses, no rugs, just sun, sun and lots of fun! Whatever you do with your horse, or whether you are horseless and ride someone else's or watch or help at shows, summer is a great time for everyone.
Unfortunately I again have to say a big SORRY to you all, for the belatedness of the Christmas(!) separate Spotlight L . What can I say?! However you lot will now be receiving it very soon - promise! - and a bumper, super duper Summer one will come to you before the show at Warwickshire. So mucho apologies to all Youth members..and to make up for things even more this newsletter Spotlight is EXTRA long!!!
While guilt is still upon me, I am gonna be extra, extra nice and extend the 2002 Youth Points Competition deadline again. I KNOW someone will send me their form very soon, so please don't let me down! You all have until the end of August and I will add some bonus prizes to runners-up. You can't say fairer than that! Just remember, send in your form and that gorgeous Appaloosa Breyer model, kindly donated by Utterly Horses could still be yours. Honest!!
Now you may remember last time I had myself a good moan at those adult members and it paid off as they have come up trumps for the Youth division. I have now had some lovely prizes offered for the YOUTH TRAIL RIDING PROGRAM ..what lucky members you lot are!! Full details will appear in the Summer Spotlight .
You may also my request for profiles on Appy studs and horses, and Jo and Dick Mutimer kindly stepped forward with lots of info about their Appaloosa stud, Exbury Appaloosas. A full profile will appear in the Summer Spotlight , but until then here are some quick facts about the stud.
EXBURY APPALOOSAS - fast facts
· The resident stallion at Exbury is AMAZING MOONSTRUCK, known to his friends as Dusty . Dusty is by Amazing Blue out of Princess P L Tupps II and is a few spot. He stands at 15hh.
· Exbury has several Appaloosa broodmares including MISS CHOCOLATE MONEY, a.k.a. Choccy . Choccy has had five foals, including Chocolate Chip and Exbury Chocolatesundae, and by the time you read this she will have another foal as she was due in early May.
· Jo and Dick don't just have Appys, also resident at Exbury are their 2 dogs, Bramble and Spook. Bramble was rehomed to Jo and Dick by the National Canine Defence League, and he has settled in well with Spook who is a white German Shepard.
· Another horse you may know from the Exbury stud is EXBURY AMEX who was overall champion at the first ApHC ( UK ) National Show.
Hope you enjoyed that and if you really can't wait until the Summer to find out more, you can visit Joe and Dick's website, www.exburyappaloosas.com where you can see pictures of Dusty, Spook, Bramble and Choccy, who even has her very own diary. Great stuff and a BIG THANKS to Joe and Dick!! If anyone else would like the Youth members to know all about their Appys, please, please, please write in!! Or maybe a Youth member wants to make their Appy famous? It can be done! Or nominate your fav Appy if you haven't got your own and I will try and find out more about them. Prizes for the best!!!!
Now here's a girl who has already earned a prize or too. Lucky member Felicity Lowe was this issue's Spotlight winner and here is a taster of her profile - again full version to follow in separate Spotlight . Well done and thank you Felicity!
In the Spotlight .YOUTH MEMBER Felicity Lowe
- Felicity has one horse of her own, an Appaloosa called Corona . Corona is 6 years old and has two brothers called Chillie and Cadbury.
- Says Felicity: 'My favourite Appaloosa is Corona because she has a very nice character..I also have a soft spot for Joe Glow!!' I doubt you are the only one Felicity, I expect a Joe Glow fan club will start very soon!!
- In total Felicity has five Appys at home and they are called: Corona , Cadbury, Chillie, Comet and Crystal . Corona is going to be put in foal this year.
- Felicity's favourite coat pattern is leopard spot.
- As well as Appys, Felicity has a border collie called Flint, a guinea pig called Maxine, two fish called Rodbourne and Cheney, two birds called Jake and Goldie and a hamster called Cybil. Phew!!! I think Felicity must be a very busy girl with all those pets, but she also tells me she enjoys dancing and swimming when she gets the chance!!
NATIONAL SHOW NEWS!!!
Want to show an Appy at Warwickshire but Appy-less? Let me know and I will try and get hold of a horse for you. Also if you are horse-mad but horse-less and are planning to make it to Warwickshire to watch here is some exciting news for you. SPECIAL COMPETITION for ApHC(UK) YOUTH MEMBERS spectating. Details at the show.
Plus all things being well I will be at Warwickshire with my special girl Bebe, so if any of you would like to come meet us both throughout the weekend please do come say hi. Bebe loves Youth members and I know she would esp. love it if you wanted to help give her a groom one evening or perhaps help out with her feed (she might especially love you then).
