Mystery Photo Number 3 from N/L No 11 revealed: -
CAPITALL STANLEY AND HELEN GOUGH-STINTON
Mystery photo no 3 is Capitall Stanley, bay gelding 16.2hh, sire Capitall Cyril, dam Rivaz Impala. My mother and grandmother bought him in 1989 from Joan & John Sillitoe. When we got him home, he tried to jump out of his stable leaving a hind leg behind, it slipped between the wall and door, we got a crow bar to break the door open and free his leg, we thought he had broken it. Fortunately, he had just taken the skin off right down to the bone. The vet came and did her bit, mum and I spent all night with him in the stable, making sure he was as comfortable as possible. The next day we phoned Joan and John to tell them what had happened. John told us to bandage his leg and on the gamgee soak equal parts of cod-liver oil and honey, place directly on to the wound and change the dressing every 3 days. We were not sure but did it any way, and it was amazing the flesh started to close together and after about 6 months all that was left is a small scar. I backed and schooled Stanley myself, taking him to small shows and then on to county level competing in lightweight show hunter, ladies hunter (side-saddle), and working hunter. Stanley was very successful winning in all three types of classes. Just to name a few, first and reserve champ at Cheshire County (lightweight). First and supreme champ, at The Royal Welsh (ladies hunter). First and supreme champ two years running at The Three Counties Show (working hunter), he qualified for Wembley in 1997 in the light weight hunter and ladies hunter class, and ridden champion at the ApHC UK Breed show 2001/2002 & 2003. Stanley also hunts, hunter trails, one day events, show jumps and has won at unaffiliated elementary dressage. He is a lovely horse to ride and jump his manners are impeccable. HE IS ONE IN A MILLION. Thank you Stanley for being who you are. Helen and Jane xxxx
