Cheyenne's Pazaz and Jane Osment
I bought Cheyenne as a four month old as I just liked the look of her; she has always had large chocolate spots on her bottom and looks like she is going to keep them. Cheyenne is part bred, her father is a few spot stallion called White Lightning and her mother is a New Forest Pony called Weirs Sixpence. She seems to have inherited more of the appaloosa than the forest, the only forest bit that we can find is her mane and tail; she was a bit like Tina Turner in the early days!
Cheyenne has grown so well over the summer I thought that she would make around 14 hands but I now think that this may be greatly under estimated and she will probably make 15 hands. She has always been quite feisty but once you have shown her what you want she is very willing and learns quickly. Up until the Appaloosa Nationals she had only been to a local show, she behaved very well but when it came to trotting up for the judge she didn't think that she needed to, why waste energy on trotting when walking would do, and so it was off to my cousins for a few lessons in trotting when told.
The weekend of the show came and she was bathed, shaved and loaded in a strange trailer and taken on a three hour journey, put in a strange stable with strangers around her, she didn't care a jot but I was terrified as my cousin (Lee Jose), had put me in for all sorts of classes that I didn't know about. I asked her what the next one was and she said 'Oh only in-hand trail', I asked what this entailed, it was too late by then as I was in the arena. Cheyenne has never seen poles before let alone gone over them, she amazed me again and did the course. I was the one who made the mistake as I didn't ask her to trot after the poles but she did everything else almost perfectly and we came fourth. I can't tell you how pleased I was with her.
All in all I had a great weekend, it certainly did my yearling the world of good being in that environment all the horses there were all so well behaved, we both really enjoyed ourselves and I for one am looking forward to next year. I would like to thank everybody for making me feel so welcome and for a lovely weekend with my horse.
Many thanks
Jane
