Mystery Photo Number 2 from N/L No 15 revealed
Dukes Touch of Fun and Jill Duke
I was surprised as well as pleased to read the nice letter sent in by Jaki Canning regarding my filly. You are right the photos taken of Fun were at the first show the ApHC UK held in 2000.
Over the years I have always had the odd spotted pony and when I had a little bay pure bred Arab mare that I could not get palomino foals from I decided to put her to an Appaloosa and see what we got. I chose Capitall Luke for the sire, our first year from Luke I had a leopard spot colt, named Dukes Spiderman, he is in Pembroke area now and doing a lot of jumping I am told. The second foal was a jet black colt, then the third year foal was the blanket spot filly Touch of Fun, called this because my first love is Palominos, but I thought this filly is going to stay and I am going to have some fun with her and that I have certainly done.
The weekend of the 2000 show were the first shows for Fun, she took three firsts over the weekend, we were so pleased with her that we decided to go home before the championships as she seemed tired. We were loaded and all bandaged up ready to go and a steward came up to us and said she thought we ought to go in the championships and we did just that and to our surprise she took the female championship. Well I came out of the ring with tears in my eyes I was so chuffed, her number that day was 13, and we went home with 13 rosettes, what a weekend and this is how she has gone on.
The next time we attended one of the ApHC UK shows she again took three first prizes and we had a lovely weekend.
We now seem to get more classes in Wales and near by. Last year we went to six shows in Wales and had five firsts and one second.
This year I intend to just enjoy her again and perhaps next year break her or put her in foal. The main thing about Fun is she is a nice horse, she is always trying to please you and when showing her in-hand it's like holding a piece of ribbon in your hand she is so easy. I hope everyone has a good year with the Appys, also hope to see some of you around at shows.
