Mystery Photo Number 1 from N/L No 11 revealed: -

Red Twilight and Sara Baldock

Thank you for picking us as mystery photo number one, we are Sara Baldock and Kizzy (Red Twilight) she is a 15.2hh near leopard mare.  Here is our story:

It began back in 1990 when we were visiting a dealers yard, we were there to look at a Welsh cob that was supposed to be a complete replica of my sister's cob.  It turned out to be nothing like him and we were about to leave when my Mom caught a glimpse of a spotty bottom over a stable door. It was cowering at the back of the stable amongst three colts, frightened to death of everyone and everything.  We originally thought it was a colt too, but when we found out it was a filly, that was it - we just had to have her.  We called her 'Kismet' because it was fate that brought her to us.  We put down a deposit and had to have a small loan in order to buy her. Delivery day was a nightmare, you couldn't get near her! After about half an hour she was driven into her new stable.  Being of such a nice breed as the Appaloosa it wasn't long before she came around.  We decided to try and trace her breeding for registration - someone must remember breeding such a brightly spotted filly. After nearly a year we found she had already been registered and that she had good breeding: her father was Rivaz Northlight and her grandfather Klaus.  We have tried twice for a spotty foal over the years with no success; she seems to keep all her spots to herself!  She has had a chestnut colt from Gaylord of Summerdown (we would very much like to trace the whereabouts of this stallion as he threw such a lovely foal), which unfortunately had to be put down at only 5 days old due to an accident in the field.  Then a bay filly (by Special Edition), who was the only survivor of twins and only made 14.2hh.  We sold her on, only to find a couple of years later that she was now a mom herself - to a beautiful bay blanket spotted filly! (picture attached of  daughter (Twilight Carousel) and grand-daughter). Kizzy likes to jump and cross country, although not very bold she always tries her best and has won many rosettes and trophies at unaffiliated shows. She is an excellent speed horse - being so honest, she can take off from anywhere!  We enjoyed our day at Rodbaston very much and wished that we had entered more classes.  She was 2 nd in both her jumping classes, only being beaten by a non-appaloosa.

It was a last minute decision to go and we hope to compete at the next one at Warwick Agricultural College - hopefully just the in hand classes as she should be in foal!  She is now 13 years old and still acts like a 2 year old, the only thing missing from our lives is a foal from her which we can keep, preferably spotty and about 16-16.2hh.We are hoping to send her to stud this year and are currently looking for a stallion.  We are hoping to find a stallion that she could run with (as she has the last two times) as serving in hand upsets her so much.  Whatever happens, she will spend the rest of her days with us as we love her and her naughty habits very much.  If anyone knows of any stallions local to Staffordshire/West Midlands, or the whereabouts of Gaylord or Twilight Carousel's foal, please do not hesitate to contact us on 01543 683542.
