Le Trec

A new equestrian competitive discipline and recreational activity

In the autumn newsletter we included an introduction to Le Trec by ApHC UK director Polly Lloyd Owen.  The following is the next instalment on information about Le Trec. 

Now that you all have a fairly good idea on the Orienteering side of Le Trec here are some PTV (cross country trials course) obstacles you could try at home.  There are approximately 26 types of obstacle and they involve various different situations.  Here are a few:- 

Riding up an incline

Riding down an incline

A step of 1 meter high ridden

A step of 1 meter high led

A drop of 1.30 led

A drop of 1.30 ridden

A tree trunk around 1meter high

A water crossing of up to 5m depth

A ditch of around 1.50 meter ridden

A ditch of around 1.50 meter led

A hedge to be jumped 1meter max

A course of bending poles

Leading the horse up an incline

Leading the horse down an incline

Footbridge crossing 1m wide 5m long

Leading a horse in & out of a trailer

Opening & closing a gate

S bend

Reining back 4m in a .80 corridor

Riding a bank

Low branches

Staircase up

Staircase down

Riding through a corridor 0.5m wide and 8m long

Immobility in a circle the loose horse must remain in a 4m circle for 10 seconds whilst the rider is outside a concentric 8m circle

Mounting on the near and off side in a 2.50m circle

There is a certain amount of data provided in the BHS Handbook on Le Trec on shapes, dimensions, materials etc.  It is recommended that all obstacles should be natural and used whenever possible in the particular environment available.
