ApHC UK 2003 National Breed Show Report

The Appaloosa Horse Club UK national breed show 2003 was held on the 9 th and 10 th August at Warwickshire Agricultural College, Moreton Morell, Warwickshire.

The show will be remembered for the searing heat on the Saturday and the torrential down pours, thunder & lightning on the Sunday!! And no American judge as she had her passport stolen on the Monday prior to her arrival in the UK and the USA would not let her out - just a small problem to cope with as no approved USA judge could be found at such short notice and therefore unfortunately all APHC USA approved classes had to be cancelled. However the venue catered for everything the weather could throw at us, except the dressage arena which was outdoors and where marks for courage must go to Kate Daly just starting her dressage in the dry and ending in the heaviest rain seen this year!!! She was soaked as was her mum Jackie Daly who stood there in all her summer finery reading the test.

No American judge posed a few late problems like finding a WES judge (huge thanks to Sarah Hadley) for all the WES classes on the Sunday and although I am an approved WES Judge I had NO intention of organising the show and then judging it as well!!! Although I did have to judge the Western Showmanship and the In Hand Trail. Peter Gunn, our UK judge did a tremendous job despite the heat and finished judging approximately 6.30 pm.  We unfortunately had to lose the PA system in the indoor covered arena as we had to move outside to the covered outdoor arena which meant that the results of the classes could not be announced and a lot of shouting for exhibitors to be ready for classes but we managed and the show was a success.

The BBQ on Saturday evening was a huge success and a wonderful way to relax after the stresses of the day and the hugely entertaining freestyle to music event and bareback equitation. See you in 2004.
